It’s been almost 1.5 years since I arrived in Australia as an international student, and like many others, I’ve come across different opportunities and valuable lessons. One of my biggest learnings so far has been the importance of communication, something I felt I lacked in my past roles.

To improve this, I decided to join 7-Eleven, a popular retail chain known around the world, as a team member. My goal was simple: to learn new things in sales and enhance my ability to communicate with customers.

In the last four months, I’ve had the chance to interact with over 3,000 customers, ranging from local Aussies to people from Asia and India. Through this experience, I’ve developed a better understanding of different buying behaviors and, more importantly, sharpened my communication skills.

At first, I didn’t see how working at 7-Eleven would connect with cricket, and to be honest, I wasn’t sure about it initially. But as the famous saying goes, “Everything connects.” This experience has improved my ability to communicate and express my ideas clearly—skills that are crucial in any field, including cricket.

Now, I’m more confident in my ability to understand people and connect with them, which I know will help me in my journey ahead, both on and off the field.
