Wait… is this real?

It was two nights before the Boxing Day Test match when I got a call from Shannon sir, asking me to come to the lab to shoot some content. He casually mentioned that Marnus Labuschagne was coming in, and I couldn’t believe it. I got ready and rushed to Cricket Performance Lab (CPL).

I was the first to arrive at CPL that evening, and Shannon told me that Marnus was running a few minutes late. He suggested I chat with him when he arrived. When Marnus finally walked in, he immediately started talking cricket. He asked me about a particular dismissal and how it looked from the outside, while sharing what he felt about it. That interaction, even though brief, was memorable.

Marnus Labuschagne is an incredible player, but what struck me the most is that he’s a true cricketing nerd. He’s obsessed with his bats and is incredibly passionate about finding the perfect one. He spent almost 4 to 5 hours at the lab, testing different bats, adjusting grips, and analyzing every tiny detail.

That day, Marnus taught me something invaluable: if you’re truly passionate about something, you need to go to extraordinary lengths to understand it deeply. His attention to detail and drive to get everything just right was inspiring.

Taking a picture with Marnus was one of the best moments of my journey so far, but more importantly, that day, he taught me so much about cricket and passion in just a few hours.
