Richmond Cricket Club marked the beginning of my professional journey in the cricket season of 2023-24. This opportunity wouldn’t have been possible without the invaluable support of Shannon Young, the head coach of Richmond Cricket Club and the founder of Young Gun Cricket, Per4orm, and Cricket Performance Lab.
In early October, Shannon sir introduced me to Paul Gilchrist, the Vice President of Richmond Cricket Club, to discuss how I could contribute to this prestigious club. During our meeting, I eagerly shared my experience in analytics and multimedia, and soon after, I was entrusted with the Matchday and Multimedia role.
Matchday Operations
In my role during matchdays, I was responsible for setting up FROGBOX, capturing content using professional cameras and devices, and posting live updates on social media. This role allowed me to be actively involved in every home game, providing real-time coverage that kept fans engaged. I also took it upon myself to attend all training sessions voluntarily, which not only deepened my connection with the club but also helped me build strong relationships with the players, coaches and committee members.
Social Media Management
Managing social media for Richmond Cricket Club was both fun and rewarding. For the first time, I applied my expertise to a premier team, where I was tasked with capturing key moments, creating engaging content, and driving the club’s online presence. Under the guidance of President Peter Gigliotti, who generously shared his experience and even his camera, we managed to achieve impressive results. Richmond Cricket Club had the most engaged social media page throughout the season, outperforming other teams in terms of reach and interaction.
Boxing Day Highlights
One of the standout moments of the season was being invited by Shannon Young to the Boxing Day Test, where he hosted all the members who had contributed to Richmond Cricket Club off the field. This gesture not only highlighted the club’s appreciation for its team but also gave us a chance to bond and celebrate our collective efforts in a unique and memorable setting.
My time at Richmond Cricket Club has been instrumental in opening doors to new opportunities, including a role at Indoor Sports Victoria. The prestigious nature of the club, combined with the amazing people I’ve met along the way, has enriched my professional journey and provided me with lifelong cricketing friends
